Undertake Manual
Handling
Why the Training
One in three injuries to Australian workers is caused by manual
handling, with inexperienced and untrained workers at greatest risk.
Workplace Health and Safety Legislation requires that all employers and
employees have a shared responsibility to have safe systems of work and
safe work practices in place.
Manual handling injuries are not limited to those sustained by
lifting or carrying heavy loads. A person can be injured when handling
objects in a variety of ways including pulling, pushing, holding or
restraining. Good posture and lifting techniques can help reduce the
risks, but research indicates that making changes to workplace design
and appropriate training is the most effective way to prevent a manual
handling injury.
